For the first time in SL CSCT offers BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying

The Colombo School of Construction Technology was established in 2008 to provide quality education in the construction industry through their BTEC Higher National Diploma accredited by Edexcel International UK. The HND provided CSCT students with the opportunity to proceed to the School of Built Environment, University of Salford in UK for the completion of BSc.

Following a year of negotiations and planning, the University of Salford has entered into a partnership with the Colombo School of Construction Technology whereby CSCT now offers a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying.

This degree is a full four year Honours degree programme which consists of 3 years of teaching and 1 year of industrial training. CSCT has the distinction of being the first private educational institute to provide such a degree with the University of Moratuwa being the only other such degree provider. This degree programme is unique in that it is designed with an integrated industrial placement at the end. This placement at the end instead of the usual mid range placement is to better facilitate the students' smooth transition into the professional workforce.

It also provides an excellent alternative for overseas studying which causes needless hardships on budgets. However students have the option - if they so wish- of completing their final year at the University of Salford and/or attending the graduation in UK.

The School of the Built Environment at the University of Salford is an internationally recognized centre for Built Environment study and research. Its Centre for Disaster Resilience is one of only five academic institutions recognized by the United Nations and is one of the top rated Universities for Research. As with their other programmes, CSCT believes in the highest quality and calibre in their teaching staff. All staff possesses a close link to the construction industry and are up to date on the state of the art practices within the industry.

Entry into the degree programme too has been simplified to give more and more students a chance to enter a lucrative and highly recognized career path in today's developing world. A pass at the GCE A/L Examination, London A/L Examination in any stream or completion of an Edexcel HND or equivalent is sufficient for entry into the programme. Fast track options are available for students who have completed an Edexcel HND in the Construction field and achieved a merit for all H2 level subjects, who can then enter the second year of the BSc.

Other qualifications such as NDT or NCT etc will also be considered on a case by case basis for fast track and entry purposes. A higher educational option as well as a career path is an important decision to make and one that cannot be taken lightly. Whereas cost is a useful factor to consider, quality, sustainability, and employability are equally if not far more important decisions. The CSCT-UoS collaboration gives students in Sri Lanka an opportunity to gain an internationally recognized, quality qualification from a reputed education body that will enable students to find employment anywhere in the world.
