House of hope

On the way back from delivering relief aid in Kantale, a group of volunteers from STITCH noticed a house destroyed by the floods while driving passed Kimbissa in Matale. Wanting to know what had happened and if there was any way that they could help they were met by Mr. Gunaratne who was the owner of the house and his young family.

He was picking up the rubble of what was left of his home, in order to rebuild it in whatever way that he could. After spending the afternoon helping him pick up any salvageable material, the group decided to come back and help him rebuild. With the foundation stone laid and rebuilding process begun, this is the story of a house that is being built on hope. The Mirror Magazine will feature its progress as it continues.
