Young designers shine

By Nedra Wickremesinghe, Pix by Sanka Vidanagama

Young Sri Lankan designers made a splash on the catwalk at the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week wowing the audience with their creations. Standout collections were presented by Asanga and his white handloom textile designs, Arugam Bay who in a novel touch had their beach-wear modelled by surfers from the beach paradise, Sonali Dharmawardena with her striking batik sarees, the crisp collection by FH Studio of Fouzul Hammed, Upeksha and her floral vintage collection, and the very chic collection Angel Dust by Paul Michael.

With an overall mix of fresh young talent and the more established names showing side by side, the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week, now in its seventh consecutive year attracted a packed audience at the Colombo Hilton last weekend and looked set to move the country forward in its quest to stamp its mark on the fashion scene. The Sunday Times was one of the media sponsors for the event.
