Past rugby players of Zahira College to honour war heroes

Past rugby players of Zahira College, Colombo will honour war heroes who sacrificed their lives during the separatist war with a felicitation ceremony on Sunday, 7th November 2010 from 2.00 pm onwards at the college grounds titled as “Zahira Ranaviru Challenge Trophy 2010”. The main event will include a match between past rugby players and present boys’ and an exhibition match between Chairman of Board of Governors team and ZOBRA team. The families of war heroes will be felicitated after the matches.

The event was conducted for several years by the group of 90’s in memory of late Major Ifthikar Yoonus who was a past first fifteen rugby captain. In 2009, it was transformed to pay tribute to all servicemen who sacrificed their lives for the country. This year the event is organized by “Zahira Old Boys’ Rugby Association – ZOBRA” for the second successive year.

One of the added attractions of this year will be the matches between teams of “Rugby Nursery” students of grade 3 and 4 which is a project initiated by ZOBRA with the aim of improving rugby skills amongst the youngsters in the college.

Vice President of SLRFU, Lasitha Gunarathne will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest while Chief Organizer of Colombo District of SLFP, Fawzan Anver will be the Guest of Honour. Organizers invite all past rugby players, old boys’ and well wishers to participate in this memorable event.
