Umesh guides Chilaw Marians to their third win

Right arm spinner Umesh Karunaratne guided Chilaw Marians to their third outright win with a match bag of 11 for 135. Umeshs’ performance helped his side defeat Navy by nine wickets with a day to spare in their Under 23 Division One cricket played at Welisara.

Though there was some resistance in the late order batting the home team were unable to put in a fight back as spinner Umesh ran through the batting for the second time finishing with figures of 6 for 62 following his five wicket haul in the first inning with Navy being bowled out for 150.

This left Chilaw Marians a simple target of 89 for victory which they needed only 18.1 overs.

Ragama CC on top
Ragama CC came out on top against SSC at the end of the second days play in the match played at Reid Avenue yesterday. SSC despite putting in a fight back in the early stages of the innings failed to live up to expectations.

But the late order batting failed miserably as they ultimately were bundled out for the addition of 28 runs for 178.

Angelo in match saving knock
A match saving unbeaten knock of 167 by Angelo Perera was the highlight of the second days play in the match between NCC and BRC played at the NCC ground.

Angelo’s blistering knock with 18 boundaries and two sixes came when his side batting the second time was in a bad position of 78 for 4. His knock helped the home team end the day on 374 for 8.

Gayashan and Dinidu in massive stand
Gayashan Weerasekera and man in form Dinidu Jayatilleke was involved in a massive stand of 216 runs for the second wicket helping Tamil Union make a mammoth score of 460 for 8 declared on day two against Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC at the FTZ ground in Katunayake.

Gayashan cracked a 127 with 18 boundaries while Dinidu hit 91 which included 14 boundaries. Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC earlier made 230 and batting the second time were badly placed on 54 for 4 needing another 202 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
