Denzil-Officer and a Gentleman

The late Denzil Kobbekaduwa will be remembered for years as an officer and gentleman, attached to the Sri Lanka Army for many years, not only as a Solder but also as a sportsman.

Denzil Kobbekaduwa

Denzil departed in 1992 (Aug 8), 18 years back through a bomb blast by LTTE. Denzil played for Trinity College 1957-59 and won his “Rugby Lion” in the last year. Further to rugby he also won School colors in Cricket and Hockey.

After leaving Trinity he joined Kandy SC and later Army SC. After his playing career was over he took up coaching in rugby and did a yeoman service for both Kandy SC and Army.

Denzil after his coaching career took up refereeing and ended up as Division 1 referee. A foundation was set up by his wife Lali and his daughters to look after the needy soldiers - those who are injured and disabled through the 30-year-old war.
