At 'Waters Edge' food & beverage service is a major contributor supplying a greater share of the revenue Thus e key focus at present is the increase in numbers of Food & Beverage services especially via MICE events.

To enhance such services 'Waters Edge' welcomes diversified events, functions and marketing opportunities to keep on top of the game. Currently with the support of the Tourist Board, Bollywood popular artists such as Mr. Salman Khan and Ms. Aswin with a troupe of 140 Indian filming crew are busy capturing the best views of the various locations of 'Waters Edge'. The movie when released in 2011 will showcase one of Sri Lanka's most endearing hospitality properties close to the city to the large Bollywood movie watching audiences around the world.

Whilst focusing on such marketing avenues this very amiable personality is busy guiding the organization to face future challenges. Samaraweera notes that by nature the frequency of change of the hospitality industry is dynamic in any perspective and as a result he is aware of the high turnover of trained and competent service staff, which is a key challenge for the industry at large. He says "It is imminent that there are many challenges and thus meeting such challenges is the success of an organization".

Although new to 'Waters Edge' this General Manager has understood the need to face situation and together with his management team is busy converting such challenges into opportunities. 'Waters Edge' provides their own internal training programs to empower workers to effectively perform their job, which includes knowledge sharing from experts within the company, industry experts and non-industry organisations to enhance employee competency levels in all areas. He believes that this training methodology of internal and external industry knowledge ingrained into the employees helps the individuals to ensure smooth job functioning during their repetitive activities.

One specific challenge for 'Waters Edge' lies in the path of environment protection and the enhancement of bio-diversity within the property. With garbage disposal being a national challenge he is presently testing a Bio-gas project with the wet garbage that piles everyday and sees great potential in reducing environment pollution and the supply of bio-gas for internal use which may prove to be cost effective for 'Waters Edge' in the long run.

'Waters Edge' grows commonly used vegetables in their property and is currently testing an organic herb garden. The next time you enjoy a salad at 'Eaters Edge' it could be herbs from their very own organic herb garden. The paddy field at the entrance whilst yielding a portion of the staff intake of rice is a sight to behold in a commercial city.
