Nilan

Though ‘Pissu Nevei Heti’ and ‘Gal Woo Mal’ are based on modwern ballet, Nilan himself call it a superficial dance movements.

‘Pissu Nevei Heti’ is based on people’s reality while ‘Gal Wu Mal’ tries to portray that statues have melting hearts than people. Nilan’s previous ballets like ‘Kadatholu Nimeshaya’, ‘Ruhiru Pathana Kirula’ and ‘Mada Ahimiwa Etha’ won state awards for him in 1998, 2003 and 2004/2005 respectively.

‘Pissu Nevei Heti’...Two of them...alone and engulfed in a self made prison...forgotten by the rest of the world. Dark gloomy eerie atmosphere pervades. The water barrel quenches their thirst

Forgotten bonds...human camaraderie...a common past draws and repels them. Loss of innocence and guilt etched in their stony countenance. Abject poverty...destitution...helplessness against insurmountable odds oppresses them.

One finds solace in a broken box guitar, strings dangling.., deep hollow and steel hiding music in its belly. He shuns the light unable to face whatever he is hiding from.

Solace in Stone (Gal Wu Mal)..... Romance! Dreams of youthful innocence! Quest for adventure! A hot blooded youth in his prime.

His love beyond understanding...beyondcomprehension...complicate...sweet...but elusive. But a woman’s heart...practical?...security foremost in her mind. She reciprocates love...not enough...love’s resonance is shallow. The man hungers insatiate...his feelings almost sacred and holy...love worships...love engulfs the soul. The woman’s?... a primordial drive for procreation?

She keeps her distance...face is sad...uncomprehending...fear to succumb to this all consuming love.
