UK, Australian Engineering Degrees at CINEC

The Faculty of Engineering Sciences of the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (CINEC) provides an opportunity for suitably qualified candidates to obtain Bachelor of Engineering degrees from the University of Wolverhampton, UK, or the University of Tasmania, Australia.
For students who have not obtained the required Z-score to enter Sri Lankan universities and who are unable to attend foreign universities due to lack of funds, CINEC provides an excellent educational opportunity to gain internationally recognized UK engineering degrees right here in Sri Lanka or Australian engineering degrees by studying the first two years here and spending only two years abroad, at an affordable cost.

University of Wolverhampton offers five BEng degree programmes that could be completed in full at CINEC.

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electronics and Communications Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechatronics
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Engineering Design Management
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Automotive Systems Engineering

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK has accredited all the above courses.
The IET states an IET accredited course is "…a mark of quality…". It is this mark of quality that confirms that graduates from the above courses possess knowledge to a level that is recognised globally by the engineering and technology community. This provides a sound basis from which to develop a career, and progress to Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

The University of Wolverhampton is a first class university spread over four campuses in the region and situated in the centre of England. The University is amongst the largest in UK with a student population of over 24,000. It is recognised as producing world-class research and this has been reflected in the recent Government Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) who identified the University of Wolverhampton as producing areas of research that is amongst the best in the world.

Direct entry to 2nd and 3rd years of the degree programmes
Students holding NDT/HND or equivalent qualifications are eligible for direct entry to the final year of the BEng programmes. The final year course is also conducted on part-time basis to accommodate those who are in full-time employment. Students with City & Guilds Advanced Technician Diploma qualification are eligible for entry to the 2nd year of the degree programmes.

Technology Foundation programme
This is the only course on the IET's list of accredited courses and is specially designed for students who do not meet the minimum requirements for entry to the first year of an engineering degree programme.
University of Tasmania (UTAS) - Australian Maritime College (AMC)
University of Tasmania (UTAS) is associated with CINEC as an official partner in offering its BEng programmes at CINEC on a two-plus-two basis.

Since 1978 the Australian Maritime College has been an international leader in the provision of training and education for the maritime sector. It sits amongst the top 10 maritime training institutions in the world, has a suite of state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities and attracts an international student cohort that studies across three purpose-built campuses in Australia's southern-most state, Tasmania. On January 1, 2008, the AMC joined forces with one of Australia's oldest universities to become an institute of the University of Tasmania. This has allowed AMC to focus on its areas of expertise but draw upon the University's resources.

The AMC has recently signed an agreement with CINEC allowing students to study its courses on a two-plus-two basis, meaning two years at CINEC and two years at AMC. Degrees offered under this arrangement are:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Marine and Offshore Systems)

AMC engineering degrees are fully accredited by Engineers Australia and recognized by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (UK) and the Royal Institution of Naval Architecture. AMC-trained engineers are highly regarded. The graduate employment rate is 100% and salaries start around AUD $70,000. A reputation for excellence, coupled with an established student work experience programme and strong industry ties mean many students find employment before they finish their studies. AMC graduates can be found working in offshore oil and gas, ship building and repair, defence and a number of other related areas.

You can come along to our campus situated at Millennium Drive, IT Park, Malabe, for an informal chat about any of the above courses.
