Funday Times - A Poem for the week

The new era
By Ayodhya Perera (14 years), Bishop's College

The guns are silenced,
The twitter of birds, singing on the trees,
Looming with the dawn,
The only red is the rising sun…
Washing over the countryside.

Silent roads;
Only the laughter of school children,
Echoing in the villages and streams,
And the peal of bells,
Greet the new day.

A road to freedom,
Strewn with the flowers of peace,
While fragments of hope and peace remain,
Picking up the pieces left behind,
A new era begins.
