Golden opportunity to become an International Health Administrator

Master of Health and Aged Services Management - Edith Cowan University Australia

International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS) was set up in January 2003 as a training centre for healthcare professionals. IIHS conducts training courses in the areas of Nursing, Paramedical Sciences and Health Management with a focus to create caring, confident healthcare professionals in line with international standards.

IIHS is recognized as a healthcare training centre by the Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training and the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition and is affiliated to Edith Cowan University - Australia, the University of Hertfordshire - UK, Open University Malaysia and TAFE South Australia.

IIHS has commenced registration for the first intake of the Master of Healthcare and Aged Services Management course from Edith Cowan University Australia, which is a module based part time programme. The programme is of 2-year duration with the entire programme conducted at IIHS.

The course fee is a nominal rate, which enables the students to save approximately Rupees Two Million Four Hundred Thousand (LKR 2,400,000) as opposed to undergoing the study programme in Australia. The course is conducted in two stages; a one-year Higher Diploma programme in Health Services Management and another one-year program for the Masters in Aged Care and Health Services Management, candidates have the option of following the second year at IIHS or at Edith Cowan University Australia.

The first batch of students who underwent the first stage of the course recently visited Malaysia as part of their program where they had the opportunity to witness international levels of healthcare administration. During their 3-day tour, they had the opportunity not only to visit government and private hospitals, but also to meet hospital equipment suppliers and international hospital administrators in Malaysia.

Dr.Mahesha Ganegoda, a student of the programme, said that it was a wonderful opportunity for them and now that they had seen the quality of care in international hospitals, they realize that there is a considerable gap between international and Sri Lankan administrative and nursing care systems.

This course is especially suitable for those who wish to gather knowledge and qualifications in Health and Aged Services Management. The programme prepares the candidate to take up leadership roles in the health sector through training in planning, operational and project management of health centers and hospitals including orientation in the managerial aspects of clinical, various specialties, and support services departments.

The programme also imparts training in managing financial, material and human resources as well as planning and managing information systems and project management in healthcare services settings. As there is a high demand for qualified Health Administrators around the world Master of Health and Aged Services Management will allow successful candidates to find employment in leading international hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, hospital consultancy firms, IT industry, Health sector related NGOs, supply chain and marketing firms and other related organizations of the hospital industry (Pharmaceutical companies, and the health insurance sector).

Other healthcare Programmes offered at IIHS include BSc in Nursing - Edith Cowan University-Australia, BSc in Nursing - Open University Malaysia, Diploma of Nursing TAFE South Australia, Diploma in Nursing/Physiotherapy/Pharmacy, Diploma in Hospital Administration, Preparation Program for ACT16/ERPM and also IELTS under the faculty of languages.
