‘Suraj Presents Elements’

By Sanath Weerasuriya

Popular actor, dancer and heart-throb of many girls Suraj Mapa will come alive on stage with his maiden dance extravaganza ‘Elements’ on 14 and 15 May at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.

‘Elements’ will present the dancing talents of a number of performers from renowned to amateurs. Some of the top names in the film and teledrama scene will be featured at this show along with main attraction Suraj. The Elements will shine with the celebrity performers like Nilanthi Dias, Nirosha Perera, Nehara Peiris, Paboda Sandeepani, Nadeesha Hemamali, Sachini Ayendra, Udari Warnakulasuiya and Himali Sayurangi.

Also with the completion of a successful auditioning in search of the hidden dance talents around the country, the organizers have 20 young talents out of more than 100 applicants.

‘I wanted to give different angles to this show and that’s why I thought of going on a talent hunt and get new fresh blood to my maiden concert’ Suraj said at the press briefing on Elements last week.

‘Suraj Presents Elements’ is purely a dance extravaganza at its best. With persisting requests from his fans and wanting to share his talents and experience, Suraj believes that it is the right time to bring in a show of his own. This is his premier dance production and believes that it will be a novel experience for all its viewers.

‘I believe that the blend of connoisseurs and debutants in the field of dance coming together to perform its many variations with the latest technical resources would be a first of its kind in Sri Lanka.

Comprising many genres of dance forms ranging from traditional Sri Lankan to Latin, Indian, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Bollywood, Bhangara and more, the Elements will be one whole experience to its audience. Also the show will feature a special Michael Jackson dance act and include performances for popular Sinhala movie songs.

The show is also expected to tour for an international performance in London, UAE and Australia later this year. ‘But I wanted it to be staged in Kandy before it take wings overseas’ he said

‘Elements –air, fire, water, earth and space are the most powerful forces of nature, for these are considered the building bricks of the Universe. Nature itself holds the key to much inner knowledge of our own nature, and the part we play in the great Cosmic Plan. It is astounding to realize that these same elements could be interpreted as also functioning within ourselves. We are all made by the same laws, and these elements are not only felt around us, but can very certainly be seen to express themselves in many ways we believe to portray through dance’ Suraj explained the theme of his concert.
‘Air - Thought , Fire - Desire , Water – Emotions, Earth- Stability and Space- Substance.

These elements I consider as the bridge and reflection of creation. Hence I give the title to my show ‘Elements’ Suraj added. ‘Suraj presents Elements’ is sponsored by Tiara and Toyota
