Royal Institute: Unique school for A/L studies

A pioneer in international education, Royal Institute stands number one in providing a comprehensive and disciplined education system for students to achieve academic distinction.

Apart from Royal Institute International School of Higher Education at Havelock Town which has over 20years experience in teaching for GCE London Ordinary Level and Advanced Level, preparing students for Edexcel Examinations, its branch school in Nugegoda teaches from the Nursery up to GCE Advanced Level Cambridge Examinations.

Royal Institute in Maharagama provides English medium education from the Nursery up to GCE Advanced Level Examinations in two streams, one based on the British Curriculum for Edexcel International Examinations and the other on the National Syllabus. Royal Institute stands out among international schools as a rare opportunity is provided for a student who enrols in the Nursery class to proceed up to a prestigious and internationally recognized degree of the University of London at Royal Institute of Colombo, without interruption.

Though the internet has replaced libraries in many quarters, Royal Institute strongly believes that a well equipped library is an indispensable asset to students of an institute of higher learning. Therefore we have invested heavily on libraries of all Royal Institute group of schools to provide an extensive collection of text books in all fields of study, supplementary books and other reading material relevant to the respective courses of study. Multiple copies of past examination papers are also provided. Students may also have the on-line access to the Examination Boards to look for past examination papers. All libraries have the lending, as well as the reference facility and students, particularly in the higher grades, are encouraged to make extensive use of the reference facility.

At Royal Institute group of schools where London A/Level, Cambridge A/Level and Local A/Level (English Medium) classes are conducted, the main thrust is on the full-time academic programmes which offer popular subject combinations such as the Biology group, Commerce group, Further Mathematics group and the Law group. The Law group has been introduced beginning this academic year as it provides a firm foundation in Law to students who eventually wish to choose a career in Law or to follow the LLB degree of the University of London at Royal Institute of Colombo, the higher education wing of Royal Institute.

Maintaining high standards in teaching, exercising strict control over the quality of instructions, strict discipline and impressive results are among the main attractions. We take pride in being able to achieve academic excellence in the A/Level programmes. Currently around 450 students receive their education in the A/Level programmes, while the total number of students in all Royal Institute group schools from the Nursery up to University of London degrees exceed 5000.

Year after year, our results in O/Level and A/Level examinations of both Edexcel and Cambridge have been outstanding. Some of our students have been able to achieve world's best results in a range of subjects at the Advanced Subsidiary Examinations often surpassing even UK students mainly because of high quality delivery of the programmes by Royal Institute which has more expertise and long experience than most other institutions offering similar opportunities.

Royal Institute also offers scholarships on admission to students who have achieved excellent O/Level results as well as merit scholarships for impressive performance in the internal tests and we believe, that those measures, among others, have contributed to motivate students to maintain high levels of performance and to achieve excellent results in the final examinations.

The challenges for an educational institution are numerous in undertaking responsibilities to prepare high quality manpower for both personal and professional effectiveness. Royal Institute has taken great interest in constantly improving the infra-structure facilities and the academic programmes in view of the rapid technological changes and increasing globalization. As a premier educational establishment, Royal Institute is geared to meet these contemporary issues and future challenges as well to equip its students with the necessary attitudes and skills effectively for them to face the challenges with confidence.

The new A/Level programmes are due to commence shortly and the registration process is now on.
