CIM Sri Lanka Region stands tall internationally

CIM Sri Lanka Region became the first ever CIM International Region to simultaneously have two representatives on the CIM International Board of Trustees (IBT). This honour resulted with the election of Mr. Shiraz Latiff, immediate past Chairman of CIM Sri Lanka Region at the recently held elections.

Mr. Suren Rajanathan, Chairman of CIM Sri Lanka Region from 2007-2009 also serves currently on the IBT. The IBT is vested with the governance and control of The Institute. With the appointment of Mr. Latiff, CIM Sri Lanka will now have a broader representation at the CIM International Board of Trustees and greater involvement in policy making. This achievement signifies the recognition that CIM Sri Lanka Region has earned amongst the CIM international community, and the value it has created to the local membership through the years.

CIM Sri Lanka Region has achieved many 'firsts' in the history of CIM. It was the first overseas branch, the first international region, the first international region to achieve the 'Best Region Award' and was the first to establish a CIM regional member group overseas. Throughout its illustrious journey, CIM Sri Lanka Region has produced 2677 graduates and currently serves over 1260 Professional Members and 211 Chartered Marketers, having contributed immensely towards uplifting the recognition of Marketing as a profession not only in Sri Lanka but also the South Asia Region.

Sri Lanka has had representatives on the IBT since 2001. Mr. Mano Thittawella, Dr. Uditha Liyanage and Mr. Lasantha Wickremasooriya have held positions on the IBT previously. As the membership grew, CIM Sri Lanka Region has been lobbying for a stronger voice in the IBT which has now been achieved.
Mr. Suren Rajanathan who was elected to the IBT in December 2008, served on the CIM Sri Lanka Region Board and Management Committee for ten years. He is a Chartered Marketer and a Fellow of The Institute.

Under his stewardship as Chairman of CIM Sri Lanka, in both 2005 and 2006, Sri Lanka secured The Chartered Institute of Marketing's 'Best Managed International Region' award. Mr. Rajanathan also initiated the expansion of the CIM qualification and membership in the region, to the Maldives and Bangladesh. He served as CIM's Regional Director for South Asia from 2007- 2008. Presently, Mr. Rajanathan is the General Manager - 3M Sri Lanka. He has served as the Managing Director of the Health Care sector of Hemas Pharmaceuticals (Pte) Ltd and at General Electric (GE) Health Care as Country Manager for Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
