War and Peace in Colombo

The cinematic adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s world renowned Russian novel ‘War and Peace’ will be screened in three parts on March 31 and April 7 and 15 at 6 pm at Russian Centre, Colombo.

Directed, co-wrote and played the main role by Sergei Bondarchuk, this is one of the most expensive films ever made in the history of world cinema employing more than 10 000 extras and 300 speaking parts. With seven years of production the cost over US$100 million.

Recreating every aspect of Tolstoys classic, this Russian tale tells the love and conflict intertwines the romance between a young countess and her unhappily married lover with the grim battlefields of the 1812 Napoleonic invasion.
