From the hilltops of Kandy to the deep blue seas of the South, to the North with its abundant palmyrah trees to world class surf and the hot springs of the East, to the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa and of course the busy cities in the Western Province, Spellmaster, the all-island school spelling competition has finally singled out the top 100 spellers island wide.

Audience in the past weeks have seen nail-biting and exhilarating competitions that kept them on the edge of their seats and the 100 spellers will now compete to get into the top 20 stage of the competition. Finalists from last year's competition, B. Kapilan from Hartley College Jaffna, Gayathry Manoharan from Uduppiddy Girls' College Jaffna and Subaharan Reginald from St. Benedict's College Colombo 13, are expected to give all the other contestants a run for the spellings, making the competition tougher this time around.

Explaining on how the next stage of the competition will be conducted, organizers said the top 100 have been divided into groups of 20 and 5 competitions will be held for them, where 4 winners will be selected from each group thereby going on to make the top 20.
