TMVP says election decision after talks with President

By Amadoru Amarajeewa, Our Trincomalee Correspondent

Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP)’s politburo has decided to contest the upcoming Parliamentary elections but a final decision will be taken only after consulting President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the party’s convenor Azath Moulana said.

He said the politburo took this decision when they met at the official residence of Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan in Batticaloa.

At the meeting headed by Mr. Chandrakanthan, most of the members said the party should go it alone at the election.

“Although most of the members were not in favour of contesting in alliance with other parties, it was agreed that they should talk to the President before a final decision is taken,” Mr. Moulana said.

The TMVP will be contesting the parliamentary elections for the first time. The party contested the Provincial and local council elections on the United People’s Freedom Alliance ticket.
