They were determined to vote, despite age, infirmity and disability. Politically aware like most Sri Lankans, they would not even consider staying home on election day for they felt it was their duty to take part in the democratic process of choosing SriLanka’s next President.

 

Elephants in North also need peace

It was the height of the war in the Wanni a year ago. The sounds of shelling heard from a distance, did not deter this elephant that lived in the jungles of Vakarai. But in the end the reality of war caught up with it. Its foot was blown off when it stepped on an anti-personnel mine laid by the LTTE.
