Sri Lanka ‘A’ pulled off a comfortable six wickets win over Canada at the NCC Grounds yesterday.

Canada were restricted to a score of 175 runs by Sri Lanka ‘A.’ Canadian skipper Rizwan Cheema after winning the toss and deciding to take first lease of the wicket found run making a hard task against the disciplined Lankan attack.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ who possessed players who have represented the senior national team along with top players of the local domestic tournament was too much for the Canadian batsmen.
Canada who kept losing wickets at regular intervals found themselves in deep trouble as they were struggling at the halfway stage of the innings with the score on 70 for 4.But they recovered in the latter part of the innings to end with a respectable 175.

Right arm pacies Nuwan Fernando and Farveez Maharoof who both captured three wickets were supported by right arm spinner Sachitra Senanayake who took two wickets.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ in their run chase lost an early wicket with just 15 runs on the board.

But even then none of the Canadian bowlers posed a severe threat to the home team as they compensated for the regular loss of wickets by scoring runs at will.

In the end Sri Lanka ‘A’ pulled through for a comfortable six wicket win courtesy of an unbeaten partnership between Gihan Rupasinghe and Jeevan Mendis. Rupasinghe, being the more recognized of the two batmen, belted his 74 in 72 balls while Mendis needed 55 balls to score his 29 runs.
