Jade shines Down Under

‘Jade’, a seven piece band led by experienced Sri Lankan musician Raj Dassanayake, is currently performing in Melbourne, Australia.

Raj is a well known musician having more than thirty five years of musical experience in Sri Lanka .Raj is one of the founder members of then popular band ‘Pioneers’. He played drums for the band, which was formed way back in 1970. He was with the Pioneers till late 70’s and migrated to Down Under in 80’s.

‘But I had still much music in me and I couldn’t stop associating with music’ he said Raj joined Jade in Australia in April 2009.

Jade is a well known band in Melbourne, Australia and they are in action at the most of the Sri Lankan community functions in Melbourne. They perform at weddings, parties, Community Dances and concerts too.

Raj says he is very happy to join this band because all the musicians are Sri Lankans who have an experience of over 30 years.

‘It is like we are back home in Colombo. We know each other for than three decades as musicians in different outfits in Sri Lankan and in Australia. We play most of the retro music, which we are much familiar with.’ He explained

The lineup of the Jade comprises Raj Dassanayake - Drums. ex member of Pioneers, in Sri Lanka; Reginald Fourzle (BLACKIE) - Guitar and Vocals and ex member of ‘Springtime Clearwater’ in Sri Lanka, Ravi Silva - Lead Guitar and Vocals and ex member of ‘Strings’ in Sri Lanka; Tony Rozairo - Bass and Vocals and ex member of ‘Dazzling’ in Sri Lanka in 70’s, Peter Almeida - Keyboards and Vocals and ex member of ‘20th Century’ in Sri Lanka and Corinne Hindle – main female singer of the band.
