SAITM - a gift to the nation
As many of you are aware a considerable amount of foreign exchange is outflowing for education abroad which is detrimental to the economy of Sri Lanka, mainly due to the lack of capacity of state universities to accommodate those who qualify for university education. The foreign exchange spent by the country for the past year was close to Rs. 6.2 billion for higher education abroad. With this project which Dr. Neville Fernando has launched there will be a definite reduction in this foreign exchange outflow.
Dr. Neville Fernando has given the youth of Sri Lanka a second chance to gain a university education in the safety of their motherland and help hundreds of Sri Lankan students who otherwise have to leave their country. The youth of the future must thank Dr. Neville Fernando as it is his wish to give SAITM as a gift to the nation in the years to come.
Appreciation of the nation's intelligence
After years of conflict Sri Lanka stands as one nation. The Foundation for a better future has already been laid. Sri Lanka's future belongs to the youth of this country, and it's our duty to contribute to the development of our country.
On behalf of the SAITM staff, students and parents we would like to salute our brave President His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government for bringing lasting peace to the country so that present and future students would be able to concentrate on their studies.
Long Live Russia
We must also thank the Russian Federation for supporting us throughout the many hardships we had to face from the terrible tsunami to the fight against terrorism.
They have extended their generosity further by giving the Sri Lankan students the opportunity to obtain a prestigious medical degree here in Sri Lanka from a reputed Russian Government University. We are eternally grateful to the present Ambassador His Excellency Vladimir P. Mikhailov and his government's continued support towards this project.
