Focus on polls at SLFP convention

Next Sunday’s Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) annual convention will focus on the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections with a special announcement from President Mahinda Rajapaksa on elections, General Secretary of the party and Agriculture Minister Maithripala Sirisena told the Sunday Times.

The 19th convention of the party to be held at the Khettarama Stadium is expected to draw a crowd of 50,000, including foreign delegates, Mr. Sirisena said.

“This year’s convention is going to be different from other conventions as the focus is on the elections,” he said. He said that the Colombo based diplomatic corps as well as political party representatives have been invited for the event which commences at 3.00 p.m. The event includes cultural performances besides speeches from delegates.

Mr. Sirisena said that each minister has been entrusted with organizing various events relating to the convention. He said that resolutions to the passed at the conventions are being finalized.
