“Indian External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna called me on Friday night to express deep regret about the incident,” Mr. Bogollagama told the Sunday Times last night.

“He told me this was done by persons who had no understanding and respect for our bilateral relations.”

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Acting High Commissioner in New Delhi. Palitha Ganegoda, told the Sunday Times by telephone that he would be meeting the Police Commissioner tomorrow to discuss further security arrangements for the Sri Lankan mission. “Security was enhanced soon after the incident, but we will discuss further security measures,” he said.

He said the incident had lasted only a few minutes, and that it was a small group of persons that had carried out the attack.
