By Hiran Priyankara Jayasinghe

The driver of Livestock Development Deputy Minister K.A. Baiz was shot at by a group of unidentified persons on Friday night near his home in Noor Nagar in Puttalam, receiving injuries to his shoulder and leg, Police said.

The driver identified as Mohamed Fazal (30) had been on his motorcycle near his house which is near the Noor Nagar railway station when three men had come there and one of them had opened fire on him with a shotgun.

Police said Fazal had fallen off his motor cycle but managed to run into the house and hide from the attackers. The men had then taken his motorcycle and got away with it but had later dumped it back near his house and disappeared.

The attackers have been identified by Fazal who is now receiving treatment at the Puttalam Hospital, but the motive for the attack is still not known.
