The Auditor General soon after unveiling the plaque of the new office

The Auditor General's Department recently opened its northern regional office in the Northern Provincial Council chief secretariat complex in Trincomalee. S. Swarnajothi, Auditor General, unveiled the plaque of the office building while North Provincial Governor Major General G.A.Chandrasiri declared open the office.

"Some say that obtaining a loan from the IMF is bad for the country. But I would say that getting a loan from any international funding agency is not good for the country," said Auditor General S.Swarnajothi at the event. "We are at the doorstep of the new era after the country is freed from three decades of terrorism," said Mr.Swarnajothi.

He said this office would contribute to the development of the Northern Province and has been launched under the title "Vaddaku Vasantham". All should jointly work for the successful implementation of "Vaddaku Vasantham" development programme with dedication and commitment. "We must the use the funds channelled for development to achieve the objective, otherwise we will be at a loss.

Those who are in charge of implementing development projects have a duty to account for the expenditure and the Auditor General's department is there to supervise and monitor the expenditure", said the Auditor General.
