Discovering Africa

The richness and cultural diversity of West African countries has influenced painters around the world: “l’art nègre” (art of black people) inspired Pablo Picasso and the cubist movement, which itself inspired George Keyt and other famous Sri Lankan artists...

Let the African bush tam tams echo the Kandyan drums! The public is invited to “travel” through Africa’s Francophonie (French speaking countries) and glimpse a continent which remains mysterious and sometimes unknown.

E Waa Le, an exhibition of West African Art and objects of day-to-day life displaying paintings, statues, masks, traditional seats and musical instruments of Burkina Faso, Chad, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone will be held at the Alliance francaise de Kandy from August 29 to September 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The exhibition opening will take place on Friday, August 28 at 6 p.m. with African cocktails. The Chief-Guest will be Mrs. T. M. Modder, a Yoruba from West Nigeria.
