IT- BPO industry HR summit to address economic downturn

Current Human Resource (HR) concerns such as managing staff in an economic downturn, encouraging talent and keeping high levels of commitment at times of uncertainty will be key areas of focus at a half-day summit organized by SLASSCOM, the Information Technology - Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) industry body.

Sponsored by Sri Lanka’s Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), the event is said to provide 'an opportunity for the knowledge industry HR teams to share knowledge, agree on compliance and standards, share best practices, elevate industry practices as a whole and also network closely', and is scheduled for August 25 at Hotel Galadari.

Specifically, the HR forum will feature Aquil Busrai, Executive Director - Human Resources, IBM India, who will speak on ‘leveraging talent during tough times and the key role of communication”, and Dr. P Sethu Madhavan, Head of Management Development and the R&D Unit, Corporate HR and Personnel, Larsen & Toubro India, who comment on the ‘importance of the emotional quotient in setting the right attitude’. Also planned is a panel of Chief Executives who will give their views on ‘identifying the key signals externally and internally that should prompt organizations to change proactively and tips on managing senior level peers’.

Since the IT-BPO industry is ‘primarily people-driven’, according to SLASSCOM’s General Secretary, Madu Ratnayake, the role of the summit will be to apply ‘leading edge people practices’ developed over time by this industry during its stints with global companies and large numbers of professionals to foster competitive advantage for local organizations.
