Devapura, Thasleem and Sattar impress

The frame format National Billiards Championship which got underway at the Billiards and Snooker Association billiards table in Reid Avenue yesterday saw Galle BC’s K. Devapura and two cueists from MSC M.J.A. Thasleem and Sattar impress in no uncertain terms.

Devapura made his presence felt when he recorded two wins against SLPA’s Rohitha de Silva and veteran S.M. Saharwardie of MSC while club mates Thasleem and Sattar registered impressive wins with defeating the same opponent M. Uvais of Galle. Tishan Samarasinghe of OAC having received a walk over in the morning beat B. R. Tilekeratne of BRC in the evening session of matches. In the other matches played there were fluctuating fortunes for Tilekeratne and Rohitha de Silva who each won a game. The frame format played on a race to the hundred points system is contested by 23 cueists which includes the cream of the players in the island in the calibre of national champion K.H. Sirisoma (SLPA) who most probably is a doubtful starter, S.H.M. Aslam (MSC), Zuraish Hashim (OAC) and Abdul Sattar (MSC) to name a few. The round robin matches are scheduled to end on August 13.

Results:
M.J.A. Thasleem (MSC) beat Mohamed Uvais 3/0 (100/60, 100/32, 100/21). B.R. Tilekeratne (BRC) beat Gamini Devapriya (YMBA) 3/2 (75/100, 100/96, 100/72, 90/100, 100/71). K.
