What drives the voices

And this week we take a look at a few more faced behind the voices at Yes FM. Namely, the bubbly Ryan, the smooth Cole Taylor and Ray as well as the well known voice of Steven Stone.

Ryan hosts Time Out, Take Away from 12 – 2pm. And it goes on air from Monday to Thursday. “The show consists of an hour of requests from 1 – 2pm and I try to be spontaneous and funny,” Ryan says, smiling while fiddling with her ultra cool laptop. She also hosts Friday Showdown from 12 – 2pm along with Blessie, which is an all-female show, the first of its kind on the Yes FM. “We hope the show will educate men,” Ryan quips, adding, “We go beyond fashion and food and make-up!” Blessie is also the host of Audio Tonic from 2 – 4pm on Monday through Thursday. “It’s not just the music but everyone’s personality,” adds Ryan about being a part of Yes FM.

T.R.S (Total Request Show) is hosted by Cole Taylor (Subardi) and is a request show which goes on air from 4 – 7pm from Monday to Thursday and 10 – 12 on Fridays. “It used to be between 2 – 5pm so the change is time has made a huge difference,” he says.

The All New Show and Weekend T.R.S are the two programmed which are hosted by Ray (Praveen), who joined Yes FM just a few months ago. The former show is on Fridays from 8 – 9pm and the latter from 10am – 3pm on Saturdays. “The All New Show consists of all new music,” Ray says, adding that he also plays a compilation of hits from the ‘90’s and the 2000’s.

Steven Stone (June) hosts Legends 895 which goes on air from 7 – 11pm from Monday to Wednesday and then from 6 – 8am and 9pm to midnight on Sundays. “The listeners were initially taken aback but they have now warmed up to the idea and the show has been getting a very good response,” Steven Stone says, of the show which plays music from the ‘60‘s through to the ‘80’s and a bit of the ‘90’s.

Numbers by The Beatles, The Eagles, Phil Collins and Madonna, just to name a few, are some of the popular artistes featured on the show, while he also throws in interesting information on the music and the artistes. What makes this show stand out from the rest is the knowledge Steven Stone has about the music of that era, “We steer away from the commercial type of 70’s and 80’s,” Shaq adds.
These aside Score is hosted by Shanaka on Fridays from 7 – 8pm and The Big Breakfast Speak Easy by Danu on Saturdays from 6 – 10am.

“There’s a lot of work that goes into a show,” Ryan says, to which Shaq adds, “We have a lot of responsibility due to the loyalty we have created.”

And what’s brought Yes FM this far is definitely the variety they have on air however, the DJ’s say, that in the end, it’s the appreciation of their listeners that really matter, “this is what drives us!”
