Ticket to a never-ending bus ride

The No. 104 bus from Wattala takes about 45 to 50 minutes to reach Borella, when the ride should normally take no more than 20 minutes.

The bus stops at every halt on the way, spending about four to five minutes at a time: Thotalanga, Kosgashandiya, Maligawatte and Dematagoda. The bus spends more then 10 minutes under the new bridge.

Travelling in that bus is like travelling in a Vel cart. The ride can also be quite trying, with all those sick infants being taken to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital crying, vomiting and fainting.

Because of poverty and the skyrocketing cost of living, we cannot afford any other mode of travel. The bus ride is only Rs. 18.
