All about curating

A public lecture on Modern Art by Dr. Matthias Muehling titled "Contemporary Curatorial Praxis" – what do curators do?’ will be held at the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka, 39, Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7 on Tuesday, November 11 at 5:30 p.m.

Matthias Mühling, curator at Lenbachhaus in Munich, Germany talks about different projects he initiated or curated during the last three years. Muehling studied art history, drama, film studies and politics at Bochum and Münster. In 2001 he was a visiting fellow at New York University while from 2003 to 2005 he worked as an assistant curator at the Hamburger Kunsthalle.

Since April 2005 he has been head of collections and curator for Contemporary Art at Lenbachhaus in Munich.

A forum performance

“Freedom of expression at a time of war” – a forum theatre performance will be held on Thursday, November 20 at 6.30 p.m. at the British Council Hall. The performance presented by the British Council and Beyond Borders, is being held to coincide with the visit to Sri Lanka by John Martin, Artistic Director PAN Centre for Inter-cultural Arts UK, and a respected Forum Theatre specialist.

Beyond Borders is a voluntary youth-led, youth-run organization working on development issues. Initiated by the British Council in 2005, the organization has worked on issues dealing with peace, governance and citizenship.

Tickets priced at Rs. 100 are now on sale at the British Council’s ‘Help Desk’ – open Tuesday to Saturday, 0900 to 1800 hours.
