New acting chairman at SriLankan Airlines

The Sri Lankan government has apppointed Nishanta Wickramasinghe as acting chairman of SriLankan Airlines after incumbent and former Treasury Secretary Dr P.B. Jayasundera resigned from the post, the airline said on Friday.

Mr Wickremasinghe has been on the board of the airline since January 2006 and was appointed an executive director since April this year, after Emirates ended its management contract. He is currently the General Manager of Finlay Tea Estates Ltd and is a brother-in-law of President Mahinda Rajapaksa
Dr. Jayasundera resigned from the post on October 2 after the Supreme Court said he was unfit to hold any public office due to his role in the controversial Lanka Marine Services Ltd which the court overturned, saying it was a corrupt deal.

The airline press release said the government has also appointed the following as directors of the national carrier --Dr U. N. B. Obeysekera, Nihal Jayamanne PC and Sanath Ukwatte. Mr Jayamanne and Mr Ukwatte have served on the Board of SriLankan, previously.
