Having a blast with Corrine, Ronnie

By Trevene Rodrigo

Dynamic singing sensations Corrine Almeida and Ronnie Leitch wowed Melbourne's Sri Lankan community with a masterful display of musical versatility at the annual Ananda College Maroons Night 2008 Ball held at the Kingston Town Hall recently.

Ronnie and Corrine were at their witty best, combining music and comedy in their now famous act that had a roaring crowd pleading for more as the night drew to a close.

Backed by one of Melbourne's leading dance bands, Midnight Mist, the duo showed that they are not merely the baila "Chakra-wathis" they are known to be, producing a breathless array of English oldies both rock'n roll and ballads. They complemented the superb efforts of Midnight Mist's very own "Mr. Music" Ben Nathanielsz , Carl Jayasinghe and support artistes Walter Fernandez and rising star Ranmali Jayasuriya to produce a cocktail of fine music.

The always effervescent Ronnie told me how Melbourne held a special place in his heart from the many cities he has performed in around the world. The Old Anandians, over 600 of them and their guests who packed the venue to celebrate another year of the old school ball, revelled in the atmosphere of camaraderie and entertainment.

Ronnie was full of praise for Melbourne and its music savvy fans who he claims are one of his best audiences in the world.
