Watawala’s Abbotsleigh factory gets ISO 22000 Certification

Watawala Plantations Ltd, a leading producer of fine quality, Ceylon Teas, has achieved another milestone in its continuous effort to upgrade the standards of the production units to cater to international food quality and hygiene standards.

Their Abbotsleigh Tea Factory, selling teas under "Florence" selling mark, has obtained the ISO 22000 certification from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, for the Food Safety Management System (FSMS). “This is a noteworthy achievement since Abbotsleigh Tea Factory, is the first ever up-country factory in Sri Lanka to receive this certification.

The teas manufactured at Abbotsleigh amidst stringent quality control methods, and a very high standard of factory hygiene are now identified by the Colombo Tea Auction buyers as a highly consistent tea, with useful cup characteristics,” the company said
