Chef’s Day at AGH

By Sanath Weerasuriya

International Chefs day is celebrated in October each year and the Chefs Guild of Lanka has planned a day's event to mark this occasion at the Airport Garden Hotel, Seeduwa. Besides all Chefs of Sri Lanka representing all Hotels meeting at this occasion the Guild has also planned the following.

The Chefs Guild of Lanka CGSL was awarded the 'Global Humanitarian Award' for all the Tsunami cooking camps operated in the affected coastal areas by us, feeding almost 10,000 displaced people. This Award was given to us at a special World Congress held in New Zealand in March this year and CSSL was chosen amongst 82 countries.

We have also set up a Hotel School is one of the Tsunami affected areas in Hambantota called Hungama and working closely with Don Bosco, training youth from the Tsunami areas in Cookery. The first batch of students will be invited to meet our leading chefs in the Island on this day. The entire program is fully funded by us and commenced on the 1st of August with a batch of 30 students and will continue in the same manner thereafter, said Gerard Mendis, the Chairman of the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka.
