Sri Lanka Army claimed the overall championship in the men’s and  women’s categories with a tally of three gold medals each in both  segments at the 37th Senior National Rowing Championship which ended at  the Diyawanna Rowing Centre (DRC) yesterday.

The final race of the day, the Men’s Open Fours, had an exciting  finish with Army and Navy teams battling each other from start to the  end by a thin margin. Eventually Army claimed the win by a length to  complete their hat-trick of gold medals. Even the Men’s Open Pairs had a  similar situation, but the Sailors claimed a close win as they  maintained their winning streak of the race for the fifth consecutive  year.

The three-day event had all top clubs and schools competing to prove  their grit in two categories – Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and  Fours – on a course of 2000 metres, which meets the international  standards. The event was organized and conducted by the Amateur Rowing  Association of Sri Lanka.
