Sri Lankan born table tennis player Sanaya Buddhadasa will represent Australia in the forthcoming World Youth Table Tennis Championships, which will be held in Tunis, Tunisia from December 4 to 11. Sanaya, now 17, represented Sri Lanka when she was schooling at Visakha Vidyalaya in the Under-15 category when she was still 12 before moving to Australia for higher studies.

Sanaya is the current Under-17 and Under-19 top ranked paddler player in Australia. She is also ranked ninth in the Open category. Sanaya is presently studying at Marybinong High School in Melbourne.

“When I came to Australia, I wanted to become national champion here and my dream is to represent Australia in the Olympics. I’m happy to be the number one ranked player in Under-17 and Under-19 categories in Australia at the moment,” she proudly said about her achievements.

Sanaya is one of the five paddlers named to represent Australia at the World Youth Table Tennis Championship alongside her team mates Danni-Elle Townsend, Finn Luu, Nicholas Lum and Hwan Bae. Sanaya will compete at the World Youth in Under-19 Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Her partner in the Doubles will be Danni-Elle Townsend while she will partner Nicholas Lum in the Mixed Doubles. Australia will also send a five-member team to represent the country in the Under-15 category at the same event according to Table Tennis Australia.
