Two evergreen plays in town
View(s):Two popular plays ‘Bak Maha Akunu’ by Dayananda Gunawardena and Henry Jayasena’s ‘Hunuwataye Kathawa’ will go on the boards at 3.30 pm and 6.45 pm on November 12 and 13 at the Elphinstone Theatre in Colombo.
First staged in 1963, ‘Bak Maha Akunu’ was a novel theatrical experience where the ‘revolving stage’ was introduced to Sri Lankan theatre lovers.
Two evergreen plays in town
Arrangements have been made by the late dramatist’s ‘Nalu Kirthi Sabha Theatre’ Group to have this production on a revolving stage the first and probably the only attempt in Sri Lanka at such a challenge since the late Gunawardena’s original production in 1963. ‘Bak Maha Akunu’ will feature Jayanath Bandara, Madhani Malwaage, Rathnasheela Perera, Sunil Tillekeratne, Janaka Ranasinghe, Indika Jayasinghe, Kelum Gamlath, Tharanga Kumari, Yohan Ranasinghe, Mahesh Amarakoon and Sanjeevani Wijekoon. Pubudu Walpita will lead the orchestra to the original music composed by the late Somadasa Elvigala.
Based on world renowned Bertolt Bretch’s ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’, “Hunu Wataye Kathawa” produced by the late Henry Jayasena will be staged on November 13. Nalin Pradeep Uduwela, Nimal Jayasinghe, Ruvini Manamperi, Chamika Hathlahawae, Charith Senanayake, Lalith Janakantha and Chula Kariyawasam play main roles while music composition byShelton Premarathne.
Both plays are organised by Jude Srimal and all seats are box planned and tickets are now available at the theatre gate.
