Airwomen win CDWCA Nippon Paint T20 Trophy

Sri Lanka Air Force bagged the Inter-Club Women’s T10 Cricket Tournament played for the Nippon Paint Trophy played at Colombo University Playground. Conducted by the Colombo District Women’s Cricket Association (CDWCA).

Air Force lasses beat their counterparts from Sri Lanka Army to record a comfortable 8-wicket win in the final where Dilani Manodara took the centrestage with an unbeaten knock of 35 for the winners. Batting first, Sri Lanka Army posted 80 runs for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 10 overs with Ayesha Chandrasiri (21) and Roshini Perera (20) contributing well with the bat. Sithumini Peiris chipped in with 14. Inoshi Fernando, national cap Chamari Polgampola and K.K. Suranthi claimed a wicket each.

In their run-chase, the Airwomen raced to victory with the enterprising knock by national cap Manodara, who was well supported by Iroshi Fernando, who remained unbeaten on 17 when they reached the winning target. Polgampola returned to show her prowess with the bat with a cameo knock of 16. Sudarshika Bandara and Kushanthi Liyanage bagged a wicket each.

The star of the final, Manodara bagged two individual awards – the Player of the Final and the Best Fielder of the Tournament while her teammate Polgampola was named the Best Player of the Tournament. She won a valuable bicycle presented by Lumala Bicycles. Two other Airwomen, Lihini Apsara and Inoshi Fernando, shared the award for the Best Catch of the Tournament.

Sudarshika Bandara of Sri Lanka Army won the award for the Best Bowler of the Tournament while her teammate Roshini Perera clinched the award for the Highest Number of Boundaries of the Tournament.

In addition to the main sponsor other contributions came from Hyrdaramani Industries, DP Global Ventures of David Peiris Management, Diamond Best Food Company, Zahra 3in1 Tea, Roza Pasta, Softlogic Life Insurance, Diamond Brand Match Box Company, Kundasale, Dash Brand Sanitizers, Multichemi International and Lumala Bicycle Company who supported to organise the tournament with gift packs.

The chief guest was Olympic silver medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe and guests of honour were Head of Marketing Diamond Best Food Company Rimzan Farook, Naminda Hapuarachchi and Harsha Buddhika Pathirana both representing main sponsor Nippon Paint Lanka. Community Policing Environmental Protection, Public Order Western Province Woman DIG Bimsani Jasinharachchi graced the awards ceremony as a special guest. Manager of Lumala Bicycle M. Imthiyas and Sujive Kumar of DP Global Ventures were the invitees who gave away awards.
