Sri Lankan bowlers led by Malsha Shehani spearheaded to effortlessly record their third straight win over minnows Malaysia, thumping them by 72 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament at Bangladesh yesterday. The Malaysian women were clueless to Shehani’s bowling, where she ended with impressive figures of 4 for 2. She was named the player of the match, after her allround performance, where she chipped in with a run-a-ball 14 with the bat.

The 27-year-old was on a hat-trick at one point. Though that feat was denied by Nur Dania Syuhada, the spinner, however, claimed the latter, making her the fourth victim in the same over. Lankan skipper, Chamari Athapaththu, after electing to bat first was dismissed cheaply for 21. Eventually, they managed to muster only 105, but managed to skittle out Malaysia for 33 before the tenth over.

CHIEF SCORES
  • Sri Lanka 105 for 7 (20) (Oshadi Ranasinghe 23n.o., Chamari Athapaththu 21, Nilakshi de Silva 21, Sasha Azmi 2/10, Ainna Hamizah Hashim 2/23)
  • Malaysia 33 all out (9.5) (Elsa Hunter 18, Malsha Shehani 4/2, Inoka Ranaweera 2/8, Sugandika Kumari 2/11)
