Air Force and Army, who are enjoying a tremendous run in the ongoing SLR Inter-Club Rugby 7s at the Racecourse ground, stand in as favourites to lift the Cup title when the second and final day begins today.

The Airmen first overcame Navy by 14-7, but went on a rampage to thrash the West Barbarians, a team of combined Division ‘A’ players, by a massive 54-0. In their final game of the day, they flummoxed Havelocks by 21-14, despite conceding two tries.

They top the Segment I Group ‘B’ undefeated, followed by Havelocks, who won two of their three games without much hassle. Havies beat West Barbarians by 36-7 and Navy by 26-21, before succumbing to Air Force.

The Soldiers, playing in Group ‘A’, too remain undefeated after the first day with three straight wins. They beat CR&FC by 28-10, Navy Blues by 14-10 and Police by 19-7 to top their group. CR&FC finishes at second with two wins in three games – against Police by 21-19 and Navy Blues by 36-0.

In Segment II, Western Province remains as the only side unbeaten. They compete under Group ‘C’ and beat North Central by 12-7, Southern by 34-0 and Sabaragamuwa by 21-5 to come in as firm favourites to win that segment.

Few matches women’s segment of Division ‘A’ and Pro Women, are yet to be played as bad light prevented further play yesterday, pushing the remaining games for today. So far, Navy and Army are dominating the Division ‘A’ Women’s segment while Uva Province remain unbeaten in the Pro Women segment.
