16 students arrested over Ella forest fire
View(s):Sixteen school children were arrested yesterday over a fire at Ella rock forest reserve, police said.
Officials of the Disaster Management Centre at Ella said the Army, police and workers of the pradeshiya sabha doused the fire that had spread to a ten acre area. They said they believed the fire had spread after the group of schoolboys who were on a trip had set up a bonfire in the forest reserve.
Police said that the 16 students would be produced before a magistrate today.
