Trinity placed third at L.V. Jayaweera Boxing Meet

The boxing team of Trinity College, Kandy ended at third place at the 47th L.V. Jayaweera All-Island Boxing Meet 2022, which took place at St Sylvester’s College Indoor Facility. In total 450 boxers participated at this tournament from 98 schools as many pugilists made their debut at the most important school boxing event of the country.

All seven squad members of Trinity reached the second round with good opening round wins on the first day, and out of them six reached the quarter-finals. Only three were able to reach the semi-final stage. In the end Trinity won two gold medals and a bronze medal.

Ronal Weerasekara (39-41kg category) and Salman Faris (46-48kg category) won the gold medals for Trinity while Parakrama Sooriyabandara (50-52kg) claimed the sole bronze medal. Zenel Zakeer (35-37g), Nethul Hulangamuwa (48-50kg), Hirun Kularathne (54-56kg) and Malindu Bandara (60-63.5kg) were the boxers who successfully reached the second round. Lahiru Senaratne coached the Trinity team.
