The Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy, Sri Lanka’s first football training school dedicated to aspiring female footballers, received a noteworthy donation of gym equipment worth nearly Rs. Three Million, from Sylvia Lanka Foundation recently.

Ever since the Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy was initiated by its inspiring head coach Pubudu Saman Paranagama, Sylvia Lanka Foundation, a charity institution based in the United Kingdom, has been helping the young aspiring girls from the north central province of Sri Lanka in achieving their football dreams.

Earlier the foundation came forward to support the girls by providing playing and practice kits along with football training gear and later donated computers to enhance the academic path of the girls. Sylvia Lanka Foundation has been in the fore alongside Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy in initiating many social campaigns such as tree planting projects, and other educational programmes.

“The girls of Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy are elated by the contribution from Sylvia Lanka Foundation, who has virtually been our strength since the inception. The foundation has helped the academy in numerous ways earlier and they still keep contributing to us, which has resulted in attracting more youngsters joining our academy, thus popularising football among the young girls from the area,” stated the head coach of the academy, Pubudu Saman Paranagama, who also happens to be the football coach at Bandiwewa Maha Vidyalaya.

The gym equipment are stationed permanently at Bandiwewa Maha Vidyalaya, where the academy operates from, providing the young girls the opportunity of experiencing the fitness regimes to become fitter and better players for the future. The principal of Bandiwewa Maha Vidyalaya, declared open the new gymnasium with the participation of the officials and players of Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy.
