In Sri Lanka, Summer time is usually considered ‘That time of the year’ where friends and family get together and make plans to spend quality time with each other and enjoy school vacations together. This year however, with prevailing economic crises, fuel shortages, inflation, power outages and political instability the idea of a blissful summer vacation seems but a mere dream, with many unable to afford basic necessities.
Out of those impacted by these drastic changes, children remain the most affected, due to persistent disruption in the education system with schools having been shut down on and off without warning, and exams being postponed until further notice or cancelled due to paper shortages.
Though adults are capable of coping better with these changes, from a child’s perspective, constant change instills stress, anxiety and fear as they are unable to navigate forwards both academically and socially.
In order to strengthen the spirit of Summer in little hearts and minds during these times of uncertainty and hardship, the Soul Sounds Academy brings, The 3rd Virtual Music Summer Camp 2022.
The Soul Sounds Academy’s very own multi talented and dynamic Virtual Events Team, under the leadership of Mrs. Soundarie David Rodrigo a well-known name in the Sri Lankan music industry, has been introducing and promoting the innovative concept of virtual events such as the Virtual Symposium for Music Teachers, The 2nd Virtual Music Summer Camp, The 1st Virtual Music Summer Camp and The Virtual Christmas Festival since 2020, prompted by the challenges faced during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 3rd Virtual Music Summer Camp, is organized in collaboration with the Young Choral Academy headed by Ms. Susanna Saw (Malaysia) and the Bandung Choral Association under the leadership of Tommyanto Kandisiputra (Indonesia) who are both leading figures in the South East Asian music industry, with the aim of bringing together like minded keen individuals from across the globe, giving them a platform to express their talents, form new friendships and learn from each other.
The event is to commence on the 5th of August and is open to age groups 7-12 and 13-21, offering participants the opportunity to select from a broad variety of sessions according to their preference. Furthermore, all participants in both Senior and Junior categories will be given the opportunity to participate in a series of special workshops at the end of each day, hosted by our special guest tutors.
Some of our scheduled themes include; An introduction to the World of Music, Drums and Percussion, Vocal Health, The Kodaly Concept and Choir Rehearsals, Introduction to Piano, Musical Theatre and Techniques, Stage Makeup and the trendiest addition, The Story behind K-Pop. On board with Virtual Music Summer Camp 2022 , the Academy have their internationally renowned panel of tutors who are ever ready to share their knowledge and expertise with our young ones and guide them in fun, interactive and creative ways.
The event is to conclude on the 7th of August with a grand closing ceremony where all participants and tutors will be joining one last time to appreciate the time spent with each other and to mark the end of yet another exciting summer experience.
Given the uncertainty and hardships burdening many across the globe, this year Virtual Music Summer Camp 2022 plan to award special full scholarship schemes to 45 deserving participants, to help enhance their passion towards music and musical education.
