‘Second show’ now shown in India and Sri Lanka

Thriller movie ‘Second Show’, a Sri Lanka-India co-production, 44 years after ‘Pilot Premnath’ is now being screened in both India and Sri Lanka. Shot entirely in Sri Lanka, in 1978 ‘Pilot Premnath’ was made as the first Indo-Lanka cinema co-production and post-production of the film was done in Chennai. It was directed by A. C. Tirulokchandar while co-produced by D. M. Chandrasena, T. M. Menon and M. M. Saleem. To the screenplay of Tirulokchandar, Aaroor Dass wrote the dialogues.

In a similar feat but with advanced cinema technology ‘The Second Show’ is made in both Sinhala and Tamil as Sri Lanka India co-production and it was  released in Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu on July 8.

The dual language film directed by India’s A. T. Gnanam and Sri Lanka’s Vivek Fernando shot in London with a cast of Sri Lanka and India.

“Having being a part of the Sri Lankan Cinema industry over the last 15 years, “Second Show” was my maiden debut taking the Sri Lankan cinema to the world,” KoushalyaWickramasinghe, the co-producer said.

“This is the first time a Sri Lanka-India movie co-production taking place after ‘Pilot Premnath’ in 1978. This is also a milestone for Sri Lankan stars as Hemal Ranasinghe making an entry to the world cinema with the lead role in the simultaneous Indian/Sri Lankan release of the movie “Second Show”, she said.

“My heart was always set on taking Sri Lanka to the world and this also means that my fellow producers, artists and the entire cinema fraternity also flourish as a nation.  We need to keep the flame burning where we create a breeding ground where fresh Sri Lankan talent is nurtured and incubated for the years to come,” Kaushalya said in a statement.

“It was such a coincidence that two movies covering two of the male super stars in Sri Lanka have coincided together at a very challenging period in our country and the cinema industry,” Koushalya said while thanking producer Mahadevan Ganesh of India for helping to initiate the project.

The main star role is played by Indian actress Pallavi Subash and Indian actor Ajamal Ameer and Sri Lanka’s Hemal Ranasighe. Indian stars Ajmal Ameer, Akshata Sonawane, Vidya Pradeep, Puja Mondal and Osha Chahabra play the lead roles in ‘Second Show’.

The film narrates around a story how a happy and cheerful occasion of a wedding turns into an event full of horror and tragedy for a group of friends in London due to the series of attacks of a vengeful ghost of a women who suffered a terrible fate. Sandhiya-a woman who fell in love with a millionaire-Prasanna invites her friend Siva, Yogi Deena, Roshani and Deepika for her wedding in London. All the friends were picked up from London airport in a luxurious limousine and arrive at a huge mansion. Five experiences an obnoxious feeling after seeing the mansion but they ignores the same. Later Prasanna meets all and wishes everyone warmly and invites all the friends to a get together party. Deepika attracts everyone by wearing a sexy dress at the party. Vicky a cousin of Prasanna follows Deepika everywhere because he is memorised by how stunning Deeppika looked.

Few moments later Deepika and Vicky fall in love and they end up in a room in the mansion.  The new love turns into terror and ends in a painful death of Vicky. Upon discovering the death, doctors claimed a nerve damage to be the cause for Vicky’s death. Is this the real cause of death of Vicky?

The main director, T. Gnanam, an Indian filmmaker and a screenwriter working in Tamil cinema and has worked in many movies tele films and associate director and co-director. He had worked in Chennai Express a super duper box office hit Hindi movie in story discussion department under the story author of that movie director, K Subaash.

The music director of ‘Second Show’ is renowned musician Ambi Subramanium and two songs of the films are directed by Sri Lanka’s Praneev Veal.  Director of photography is L. Vijeu.

The producer of ‘Second Show’ is Ganesh Mahadevan and Sri Lankan script is done byThisara Imbulana. Playback songs are done by Kasun Kalhara, Uresha Ravihari And Kushani  Sandareka and the film introduces new playback singers Dinendra Bandara and Kavindhi Gunawardhana.
