The Asia Pacific Institute For Technology ( APIIT) staged its first MBA Reseach Conference in Sri Lanka with the Chief Guest being The Industry veteran and a respected Chairman of many local corporate Mr. Sunil WIJESINGHE. Our task today is to understand the values we uphold and never compromise on then said the must respected ‘ quality’ expert and boardroom personality.

APIIT Final year MBA Graduate Nipuni Egodage at the Research Conference

A reseach student who was awarded a distinction in the final year reseach dissertation Nipuni Egodage from Ceylon Biscuits shared an insight where the impact from ‘ merchandising and displays’ on customer demand during Covid times created much debate given the negative correlation to demand, that finally it was agreed to share this insight with the top global expert for shopper behavior Barry Lemon who head the Shopper Academy globally.

This idea mooted by young Egodage became the theme at the conference staged at Hilton Colombo that was a total sell out. The conference drew the top talent from Unilever, Nestle, Hemas, Fonterra, Maliban and Munches apart from clothing retailers like No Limit and Hameedias that brought the most insightful tips been shared during covid times based on Shpper Behavior. It was a exciting conference with amasing energy said Barry Lemmon talking to media post the conference. I think it was the first International conference post covid and hence people enjoyed the fellowship and banter in the conference he said.

This was an excellent example of how University education and industry integration must exists, as many past best practices and obsolete given that consumer behavior changed during covid said Dr Rohantha Athukoarala the Board Director of the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology( APIIT).

We must have more if these sessions that brings out the best concepts in business which are yet not documented said Dr Athukorala who heads an Indian Artificial Intelligence( AI) company on brand tracking for Sri Lanka, Maldives and Pakistan. The consumer conversations have changed and marketing must ‘ listen’ to the facts. It is only then that we can have cutting edge brand strategy. Citing a AI insight he said that Sri Lanka publicizes ‘ Ceylon Tea’ and ‘ Single origin’ attributes but the reality is that a consumer wants a thirst quencher and no consumer says ‘ I want to drink Ceylon Tea’. This insight can change the way we think in the Tea Industry of Sri Lanka commented Athukorala. This is the important of Industry to link with academia like APIIT that runs the most industry linked MBA in Sri Lanka he said .
