Rovinya Wijesekera and Shaylon Gunarathna of Asian International School (AIS) have been selected by the World Rowing Federation to compete at the Junior World Rowing Championship to be held in Italy in July this year.

Rovinya and Shaylon have qualified to represent Sri Lanka at this prestigious world event based on their outstanding performance as junior athletes in Sri Lanka. Rovinya has also qualified for full sponsorship of her participation given her excellent achievements in the sport at Junior Level.

Both these students have been trained by Vasanth Nirmal in the last few years who has worked tirelessly to develop them to measure up to international standards. They are currently being trained for the World Championship by the National Coach of Sri Lanka, Pedro Lopez.

The Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL) have provided their support for this championship as they will be accompanied by the Coaching Director, Gianni Postiglione. The ARASL is confident that the students of AIS will contribute to the development of the sport in
Sri Lanka in the future.
