The Education Ministry is to organise a three month revision course, with the assistance of university staff for G.C.E. A/L students who are to sit the exams later this year in a bid to offset disadvantages of students affected by schools being closed, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said recently.

He said the programme has been drawn out and as an initial step teachers will be trained by university lecturers in conducting revision classes.

Under the programme the revision classes are to be conducted in August and September and aim at providing an additional learning opportunity for students affected by schools being closed due to the fuel crisis and the COVID-19 situation.

Under the progrmame a survey had been carried out to ascertain details on the completion of syllabuses in each area.

Mr. Premajayantha said funding for the programme would be allocated from funds given by UN agencies, the Asian Development Fund and other organisations for educational programmes.

According to initial estimates around 210,000 students would be covered by the revision classes. The classes would be held in selected schools or halls during schools hours in August, September and October.

Meanwhile the Examinations Department planned to have the A/L exams in the latter part of November and early December.

The Examinations Department had been assured by the Education Ministry that printing material would be made available.

The Ministry was expected to inform the department about the completion of syllabuses soon.

Action would also be taken to shorten the coming school holidays in August and December and increase the days of conducting school classes, so lessons missed by the students could be covered, Mr. Premajayantha said.
