Where have all the tourists gone?

Due to shortages in electricity, gas and fuel, the once bustling Sigiriya has become devoid of tourists.

Due to the prevailing shortages, tourists have departed the country, drastically impacting tourist hot spots in Sri Lanka, including the ancient city of Sigiriya, leaving the magnificent rock fortress barren, inconveniencing the surrounding local population.

According to the people around Sigiriya, many tourist services such as elephant safaris, jeep safaris have come to a standstill, leaving the local populace unemployed. Tour guides and three-wheel drivers while away time playing cards. The locals also report that most hotel services have halted.

The cease of bullock cart and elephant safaris have caused difficulties in maintaining the animals. Stray dogs have taken up abode on furniture meant for tourists.

The downfall of the Lankan tourist industry, a major foreign exchange source, is pointed out by a local tour guide who states that the industry has not seen such a deterioration before.

However, tourists that have arrived in Sri Lanka, amid the crisis, state that they are attracted to the sheer beauty of the country, and have requested the Sri Lankan Government
to focus on
the shortages.
